Reinvention of Wheels – an illustration

We couldn't help notice the woman in the marketing department of a major UK corporation, who was typing a screed of figures into a spreadsheet, read from a vast computer printout.

It turned out that this highly-skilled, intelligent person used up about two working days each month in this error-prone, brain-numbing process. The IT department had told her there was no other means of getting the figures off their network and into her analysis. No wonder she wanted out.

It wasn't our main reason for being there, but we put on paper a recommendation (rather, an insistence) that a network link allow her access to the reports; next month her sales analysis took half an hour instead of two days, and was more accurate than it had ever been before. It doesn't need to be complicated.....
